On 20 May, marking World Clinical Trials Day, a press conference was held at the Ministry of Health to officially launch the awareness campaign “I Participate Because I Have… Knowledge – Benefit – Trust.” The event brought together Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis, Secretary General for Health Services Lilian Venetia Vildiridi, EOF President Spyros Sapounas, as well as representatives of patient organisations, the scientific community and the pharmaceutical industry, highlighting the importance of collaboration in advancing clinical research in Greece.
The campaign is led by the Alliance for Promoting the Value of Clinical Trials, a joint initiative of the Greek Patients Association, HACRO – the Hellenic Association of Contract Research Organizations, and the Athens Medical Association. Its objective is to provide patients with reliable, evidence-based information about clinical trials, promote a better understanding of their value and strengthen public trust in clinical research.
During the event, HACRO President Evangelia (Lia) Koraki emphasised that Greece has significant competitive advantages to further expand its clinical research activity, while recent regulatory reforms have created a favourable environment for attracting new investment. She stressed that the next major challenge is to strengthen public awareness and confidence in clinical trials, recognising that informed patient participation is a key driver of clinical research worldwide.
As Ms Koraki noted, “Greece has the potential to become a leading clinical research hub in Europe. Through the consistent implementation of recent reforms, close collaboration among all stakeholders and greater public trust in clinical trials, this goal can become a reality.”
