Building a Stronger Clinical Research Environment in Greece

HACRO – the Hellenic Association of Contract Research Organizations – was once again proud to support the 14th Clinical Research Conference, organised by Ethos Events under the theme “Clinical Trials: Progress, Challenges and the Road Ahead.” HACRO President Evangelia (Lia) Koraki participated in the panel discussion “Clinical Trials: Where Do We Stand?”, joining leading stakeholders in a timely discussion on the latest developments and the growing momentum of clinical research in Greece.

Key topics included the anticipated publication of the new Joint Ministerial Decision (JMD), announced by the Minister of Health during the conference, the planned launch of the National Clinical Trials Registry in 2026, and the importance of aligning data across institutions to enhance transparency, consistency and operational efficiency. Participants also discussed the sustained increase in new clinical trial applications and the sector’s continued growth potential.

During the discussion, Ms Koraki emphasised the need for robust monitoring mechanisms and clear performance indicators to accurately measure the level of investment generated by clinical trial sponsors. She noted that the forthcoming National Biomedical Research Registry is expected to become a key reform, providing reliable data to support evidence-based policymaking and strategic planning.

She concluded by stressing that a stable, modern and efficient regulatory environment is essential for attracting more clinical trials, strengthening investor confidence and enhancing Greece’s competitiveness as a destination for international clinical research.
